Davis serves as the Gym Leader for Pudgy Pidgey Isle in the Whirl Islands located in the Johto region. He specializes in Ghost-type Pokémon, and holds the Smog Badge for the trainers that defeat him.
Despite being a Ghost type specialist, Davis has a Pidgey which is a Normal/Flying type.
This later occurred with his fellow Whirl Islands League Gym Leaders Rocky and Kylie who owns a Ground type Sandslash despite specializing in Rock Pokemon and a Water type Wartortle despite specializing in Ice Pokemon.
Unlike Davis' Pidgey, Sandslash and Wartortle know moves their trainer would typically used, Sandstorm which is a Rock type move and Ice Beam, an Ice type move.
